Winnebago Announces Grant Program for Small Businesses

On Monday, August 10th, the Winnebago City Council allocated $30,000 in Community Relief Funds from the CARES Act to disburse to small businesses in the form of grants. The Economic Development Authority (EDA) will award funds of up to $3,000 to businesses who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic or mandatory business closures.

The program will open on Wednesday, August 19th, and will be available on the City Website at http://www.cityofwinnebago.com. Applications will be accepted through Friday, September 18th, 2020 at 4:00PM.

Grant awards will be determined at the EDA meeting on October 7th, 2020 at 5:00PM in the City Council Chambers. There may be a second round of grants pending fund availability.

Business Spotlight of the Month

Roerig Hardware & Appliances have been busy changing up the store. They are offering so much more than just Hardware supplies. They have a new garden center that not only brings spring flowers, but also has fall flowers and will have poinsettias and supplies to make your spruce top pots. They have added many new items for women including home décor, toys, vests, wraps, gnomes and sooo much more!!!  They have even been offering classes on painting projects. In December, they will have a spruce top pot class. On the hardware side of things, they have built up the plumbing section, nuts and bolts and have added hog confinement supplies as well as U-Haul rentals. They are adding and changing everyday.  Their focus is on making their customers happy and helping however they can! Winnebago Public Safety K9 Jack has received donation of body armor Winnebago Public Safety K9 Jack has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Winnebago American Legion Post 82 of Winnebago, MN and embroidered with the sentiment "Gifted by Winnebago American Legion Post 82". Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,200 protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $5.7 million dollars. The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950.00. Each vest has a value between $1,744 – $2,283, and a five-year warranty and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There is an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. Click on the link above for the update and your legislators information.  Please contact them early and often.  Let them know we need their support!  State Bonding Application - October 2015 State Bonding Presentation - November 2015 On November 17, 2015 City Administrator Ziegler and City Engineer Winter made a presentation to the State Senate Bonding Committee at Minnesota State University-Mankato.   Open House Thurs Sept 17th 6 - 8 pm Open House Flyer  - Council Minutes   Beginning in Early 2013, the City Utility committee began work and discussion on improving this area of town.  Bounded on the South by 1st Avenue Northwest(also known as the Jackson Road) and on the East by US Highway 169, the area encompasses 25 city blocks.  Much of the infrastructure was installed prior to the 1940's and 1950's and has not been improved beyond spot repairs.  Existing water mains are mostly asbestos cement pipe and some residential service lines are made of lead.  Resdients experience flooding yearly in the spring due to shallow or failing storm water pipes.  The wastewater collection system is inundated with clean water due to cracks in the system and illegal stormwater connections.     August 26, 2015 - The City hosted a meeting with State Rep Bob Gunther, State Senator Julie Rosen, staff from the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Public Facilities Authority, Faribault County Soil and Water, City Staff and members of the Public to discuss the project and tour the area. Dumpster Program

Announcing our Dumpster Program. Each residence in Winnebago with a utility billing account is authorized to reserve a dumpster for one week. Read about the Dumpster Program Policy HERE . You must read the policy, sign the agreement, and return it to the city offices in order to reserve a spot on the calendar. Reconciles tax distribution and allocates funds to the appropriate department location. Assembles Council information; prepares and maintains board minutes, notices, and schedules. Assists with assessments including, property assessment searches, certifying delinquent invoices to the County; and certifies assessment payments to the County. Assists with the City’s election process and other duties as assigned. This position requires attendance at all City Council meetings. Minimum qualifications include: a combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to high school graduation with two to five years of secretarial or bookkeeping experience, with training in typing, bookkeeping, and secretarial subjects. Banyon fund and payroll accounting software, and four-year degree in accounting, human resources or related field desired. Hiring range is $16.89 to $19.57 per hour depending on qualifications, plus benefits, additional consideration for relevant experience. Snow Emergency Ordinance

Winnebago, Minnesota December 11, 2012TO RESIDENTS of WINNEBAGO:Effective 10-9-2012 The City of Winnebago has a Snow Emergency Ordinance.  Read more about it HERE.An official designation of a Snow Emergency will be announced on local radio station KBEW giving a start and ending time.  Addtional methods of notification may include KFMC and KSUM radio, KEYC televison, the City's website - cityofwinnebago.com, the City's Facebook and Twitter pages and the city's main telephone line or voicemail at (507) 893-3217.  The Snow Emergency event may be extended through an additional announcement.During emergency weather conditions (Snow Emergency) it is unlawful to park or leave standing any vehicle on any public street, avenue, or alley until the roadway has been fully and completely (curb-to-curb) cleaned.   Any vehicle which is left parked or standing on a public street during an emergency weather condition and in violation of this section is hereby declared a nuisance and shall be subject to a $25 fine and may be subject to impounding. If you have questions about the this ordinance, please call or email us.  Thank you    Chris ZieglerCity Administrator-Clerk-Treasurer
